It was amazing, the food was delicious, there were only two other groups, and we have food really fast. But, the chef did drop a sharp utensil while doing tricks with them

This is a regular haunt for me and my good friend. We love to over indulge on Sake, Sapporo and Sushi. Service is always awesome and we just all around enjoy the entire vibe of this place.

Love their hibachi, one of the best around. In my experience there is one cook who is not as good as the others. All the other cooks are amazing!

This place was just ok. It was picked for our team holiday luncheon. It’s convenient and has average prices for hibachi. Our group was between 2 tables. The service was average. I ordered hibachi steak and shrimp and it comes with a soup and salad. The soup was like all other hibachi places and the salad. My salad came late but the waitress at least realized she was short one and eventually came back. The chef also never gave me shrimp....guess he forgot..:I’m not sure. However to me the main reason I go to a spot like this is for the experience! Normally the chefs make jokes and do tricks.....nope not ours. Granted we were talking across tables but if the chef was engaging our attention would have been there. Also I think because we were a large group the tip was already added on even though we all paid separate. I had a great time socializing with my coworkers. I may come back again and just at the bar for sushi and see if that is a better experience

The Sushi was very good. Classic. They could improve in the garnish department (there was none) but the sushi was very very good.

Great food. Enjoy this place, looks as it did in the 1980s which what makes it a wonderful place besides the food.

Denise, our waitress was very nice and sure our glasses were never empty. The food was good. Fair warning though, where a bib or don't where a nice shirt because the chefs flipped food all over the table. It was first time I've ever seen such a thing. Nevertheless, we were seated with a great group of people so we were able to laugh at the amount of rice flying at us.

I ordered take out so I don't have anything to say about the service. The restaurant looks nice but the food is lack luster. I have been looking for a good hibachi place in durham and while this is of the better it wasn't great. I would recommend to anyone.

I've been going to this restaurant since 1997! My cousins treated me and I've been an old faithful customer. The food is fresh and they serve large portions. Lately, I've been doing takeout and have been able to get at minimum 3-4 meals out of one tray because it's so much food. It comes with a small salad and Miso soup. I've tried their seafood rolls before and love them too! When a competitor opened up not too far away from here. They were newer, prettier and had an exotic name but the food was not that good, portions were a lot smaller and it was expensive. So I felt we were paying for the decor or ambiance! Sometimes things can be newer, brighter and shinier but if it is lacking in quality and quantity, I'll stick to old faithful, Kurama Japanese Steakhouse! They never disappoint! Bravo, Kurama!!

I love this place. The service here was not that good the last time, but that is a first in over 20 years of coming here. Prices are reasonable and even though I dont do sushi, it is often interesting to see them make sushi for the bar patrons.

Always enjoyable. My wife and I get the chicken and rice for two and it's always more than we can eat. Price is fair for what you get, the atmosphere is relaxing after the cooking lol, overall will return again.

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!I came here with a group for a birthday party. I got sick and spent the rest of the day in bed. In total, we spent $400-$500 here.I went back and let the manager know that I got sick at his restaurant. He flat-out refused to refund me for MY dinner which is all I asked for.DO NOT EAT HERE!!!If you don't believe me look at the other reviews to see that there is a problem at this place.

Very good food and way more than you can eat. Service was spot on. Will visit the net time I'm down. The one that gave this place bad reviews are nuts. Five stars for sure!

The newly renovated bar area gives this long standing favorite restaurant of ours a great new feel. The food is the best and they always accommodate our different allergy requests. Rodney is the best!

This is my go to Japanese restaurant in Durham-Chapel Hill area. Definitely get takoyaki when you visit Kurama!

We were hoping to have a fun hibachi experience, but unfortunately, that was not the case. We literally sat down and the server asked if we were ready to order (I just set my purse on the floor). The server rushed us through our meal, constantly asking if we were finished when we were obviously still attempting to eat our miso soup and salad. He even tried to take our dinner plates while we were still eating. The hibachi chef did nothing spectacular. There was no interaction with the table guests, and he only tossed one shrimp tail to the floor beside me and my friend. Maybe it was just an off night, but the tables around us seemed to be having a great time. I'd like to say I'd try again, but I don't believe that will be the case. The food was good, but the whole experience was not enough for a return.

Waitress was wonderful but waited 45 min for a chef after a 30 min wait to sit down. Show was very minimal and food was mediocre. Disappointed as we went for a birthday dinner

Delicious food, generous portions, friendly and talented cooks. Seating is a little odd but we made it work. Even my 4 year old loved it, but don't bring your kids there if they're not very well trained to keep their hands off of got things and stay sitting during meals!

My family met here for a bday party... it was a excellent experience...the staff was amazing and the food was great...

My family of 5 went to dinner here tonight, unfortunately our 5YO started not feeling well shortly after the cook began preparing food. The cook could tell something was wrong, he kept asking her if she was okay and trying to make her smile. Myself and her ended up going to the parking lot, shortly after our entire family all had to leave. Our waitress went and got other employees from the back so they could box up our plates quickly to take with us. The food has always been great but tonight I was extremely impressed with the staff's compassion and customer service!

Took my brother and sister there for their first live hibachi experience and they loved it! We also had 2 toddlers with us, who both appeared to be impressed with the atmosphere. I like that we were able to share the early bird special and still enjoy loads of food and an overall great experience. We're visited early in the week but the staff was still professional and accommodating to us and the food was excellent!

Every time I visit Durham NC I always have to go eat at my favorite place Kurama's. Every time I go there it gets better and better I ❤it!!!!!!YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. And the service is always great.

This was my second time at Kurama. It’s been years since my last visit. Today we went as a family of 4 and it was a Sunday night so it was not extremely crowded but a decent sized crowd. I had two empty seats to my right and then a couple was on the other side of that gap. It was a great experience. My chef was enthusiastic and very attentive to my toddler. The fire 🔥 was hot but since the room was only about 60% full we all were comfortable. If all the seats were full the temperature would have definitely been too hot because it’s a tight space. I ordered chicken my husband and toddler ordered steak. A few pieces of shrimp came with everyone’s order. Along with soup 🍜 , salad 🥗, a huge mound of rice 🍚, and veggies. It was superb and massive servings totally better and cheaper than the popular mall chain. The ginger dressing is a must but my daughter kept dipping her steak in the shrimp sauce. Great atmosphere, with friendly customer service

We had a 7:30 reservation. We didn't get seated until 8:45. By the time we got our drinks and the food cooked it was 11pm. The food was delicious. But why make reservations when you still have such a long wait. And yes all of our party was there.

Waited 30 minutes to be seated, then waited an additional 45 for a cook. Guy at our table had to ask for a cook. Server took forever to bring our drinks, soup and salad. We only got 1 refill during our meal, then another while the checks were being handed out. Only plus was the Cook was very friendly and talkative and the white sauce was the bomb!

I made reservation for myself and 20 friends to celebrate my birthday. I confirmed the reservation twice but still waited 40 minutes to be seated. They proceeded to give every person at my table a $20 drink when we only order $7 drinks. We would have gladly sent the drinks back had we known that we were served the wrong size of drink. The server never asked what size of drink we would like and we didn’t realize that there were multiple size options. They proceeded to charge all of us for the $20 drinks. Overall, the servers and manager were all extremely rude. They were clearly just trying to take advantage of some college students who wanted no trouble. TRUST ME! YOU DO NOT WANT TO CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY HERE! IT WILL RUIN YOUR NIGHT!

Great place. We went in late but we were still accommodated. Rice wasn't enough though but I feel its cos we were late and the chef was tired. But they really did accommodate us. So for that. I'll be back. Highly recommended.
